Chapel Rock Perranporth is inspired by the Rock in the middle of Perranporth beach with it’s tidal pool and St.Piran’s flag flying. It’s believed that there used to be a chapel ontop of the rock. Perranporth is such a beautiful beach no matter what the weather is. Surrounded by tall cliffs and rolling dunes, this vast sandy beach has something for everyone, whether that be snorkeling, sunbathing or a splash about in the surf. Perranporth is an area shrouded in Cornish myth and legend. It is said that in the 5th century AD Saint Piran, the patron saint of Cornish miners, was tied to a mill-stone and thrown off the cliffs in Ireland. Rather than sinking, the seas immediately became calm and he floated across the water all the way to Cornwall, where he washed up on Perran Sands, adjacent to Perranporth. Saint Piran built a Christian oratory behind the beach, whose ruins still stand today. This is a very textured painting. The thick paint layers are applied with a pallet knife. Whilst the thinner layers are applied using various sizes of brushes to enable a translucent finish. The light coming through the waves and also the ever-changing colour of the sea is what I am keen to explore. Medium Unlike other mediums that dry quickly, oil paint has a slow-drying time, giving me the freedom to blend and mix colours for an extended period. This allows for greater control over the final outcome of my artwork, as every brushstroke can be manipulated and perfected until it reaches my desired effect. This is especially beneficial for creating my wave paintings, where subtle nuances in colour and texture can make all the difference. But perhaps the most significant reason why oil paint is my chosen medium is its ability to adapt to any style and subject matter. Its versatility allows me to switch between techniques, from thick impasto to smooth glazing, creating endless possibilities for my artwork. Education I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2008 at the University of Plymouth.
