Signed. Comes with a certificate of authenticity. Downpour at Crooklets Beach Bude is inspired by the beach at just north of Bude, North Cornwall. Starting the painting on the beach with acrylic paints the rain started half way through the painting. Undeterred I carried on painting until the the downpour started to wash away some of the paint, I stopped and headed for cover. The next morning I hired a beach hut for the day and continued to paint looking out towards the rolling waves. I kept the sky which had some of the paint washed away by the rain, as it gave an abstract, in the moment feel to this painting, adding some layers of texture and glazes to enrich the surface. This painting has lots of texture with abstract brushstrokes and pallet knife work in the waves and on the beach. Crooklets Beach with its Blue Flag Award beckons with its expansive stretch of golden sand and intriguing rock pools waiting to be explored at low tide. While the pebbly top adds a touch of character, once the tide retreats, it reveals a vast sandy playground for beachgoers. As a Brixham based artist I am close to the south west coast, with my studio overlooking the sea. I am inspired by the ever changing colours of the sea and the swirling clouds that sweep past my windows. I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2008 at the University of Plymouth. I like to work in oils because of their versatility. You can layer the paint so that it has a translucency. Also It is so robust a medium I can scrape the paint back or scratch into it too. I have exhibited my paintings throughout Devon and I gained an award at the Exeter Short Film festival. My films and photographs have been exhibited on the South Bank, London and in Italy.
